I dated a few; does that count?

I definitely have a type.

My grandfather was a Ranger in WWII. He never told anyone. We discovered this after he passed away. Old school bad ass. He took shit from nobody, yet he was a super soft spoken man. Constantly educating himself - once he retired from Uniroyal, he promptly went back to school, learning Spanish and German - just for fun. Also took economics, and played the stock market so well that he turned his life savings into over a million $$$. In the 80s - he died in 1986. We also found gold bars in the bottom of the furnace after he passed away. In his 1000 sq foot house. The world is a little bit worse without him.

I was stationed with Green Berets while training at Ft. Devens, MA for months during Vietnam conflict - those guys didn't need to impress anybody.

When I served in the Coast Guard on an ice breaker in the North Sea I went to bed every night not knowing if I'd wake up the next morning because if the ship rolled too much it would capsize and there was no way to be saved due to the thickness of the hull.

The degree of roll needed to capsize changed depending on the weight of accumulated ice topside. Work crews went out on deck every day to break ice and toss it over the side. They'd keep account of the largest roll with a large swinging indicator on the wall inside the hanger. Went down there a few mornings to take a look at it but didn't make a habit of that because it was scary as hell knowing that you came within a couple degrees of dying.

It was possible to be tossed into the bunk of another person in the middle of the night and you could practically walk on the bulkheads. That seemed pretty bad ass to me

My BIL was Brazilian military/police for 20+ years.
I think he's done things most of see only in action movies.
I've posted some in CFOT I think. Shot one bad guy assassin next door, on the run, with his .40 while just out the shower in his Mickey Mouse jammies.
He visited recently and loved FL right to carry. After he found out, he carried my 1911 Colt 45 in his pants everywhere with us.
Other side of the coin is that he and his son have been shot themselves, politically related.

I’ve worked with a lot of folks in Special Operations as well as regular units who have done amazing things including the Mogadishu Mile. It’s very humbling how the folks that did the most say the least about it. It gives perspective versus loudmouth braggarts on forums and in person that need validation.

There are two conflicts that regular soldiers were every bit as brave, stalwart and praise worthy as ANY special ops guys that stick in my mind....

Those ballsy grunts wading onto the beach at D-Day and the regular rank and file soldiers (from both sides) standing ready to engage on a hot July day at Gettysburg.

I'd like to think I would be that brave in the same circumstances, but there is no way to know until you've "seen the elephant".

It's just like the posers that post pictures and brag about things that don't belong to them trying to pretend they're rich to strangers on the internet just to stroke their ego.

Wealthy people don't need to impress anyone much less perfect strangers

If I blasted people to smithereens or seen my buddies blasted to smithereens I probably wouldn’t want to talk about it either. Perfectly understandable.

I served at SDVT1 in Pearl City HI for 3 years. No braggers there. Just hard working team members that I supported. PT was hard 3 times a week.. All they asked was, do as much as you can, then do more, lol.
Lt Murphy was stationed there, and Marcus Latrell from Lone Survivor 2 years before I showed up.
Seriously great place to have been stationed in my career..
Funny thing, when I went to get Lasik surgery done at Trippler, I checked submarines and they considered it special forces. Lol.

Submariners are elite are they not? They get the best food and biggest reup bonuses. Who wants to be in a tube underwater for 6 months a clip.

Some consider us a different group. Most SOF guys respect us as we do them. We do things together sometimes. I say we, as a community.
Longest I was under water without going to periscope depth was....
But I digress from the thread..
