It's not a tweaker stealing his cars, it's an organized professional car theft ring that steals high end cars and ships them to other countries. A manual trans is not a deterrent, and they'd laugh at your club and garage. They operate with impunity in eastern Canada, especially in the Toronto area, where this is a huge problem. If they can't steal it at the house they'll steal it from where you work. I feel for people there with nice cars.

Lisa talked to an old colleague today that lives in downtown Toronto. She has a friend that had FIVE vehicles stolen and now drives and old Blazer.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why the insurance companies are not demanding more action form police.

A women that started a protest in Ottawa spent more time in Jail than these car thieves do.

They're out on bail in hours and just go back to do it again, if they are even caught at all.

The federal mandatory sentence in Canada if you're convicted of auto theft three times is just six months. Given the financial upside of what they do, that's an acceptable risk.

So put yourself in the police' shoes. They risk their life arresting these assholes, only to see them instantly released back onto the streets. Why would they risk injury again? This soft on crime bullshit is to blame.

Yep, dumbarse, as if they have no license and are pulled over, they only get a ticket.
They never pay the ticket, and the police no longer pursue unpaid tickets.

The careers criminals have done well during this inflationary period, more crimes with no concern over prosecution.

I believe they might have learned from the cops. I was going to Niagara Falls years ago. And there were signs telling you that if you were caught going so much over the speed limit. You could find yourself car less standing on the road with a 10k fine to boot. I still think some well placed fish hooks would work well.
