Too much house for anybody....a smart real estate buddy posed the question to me about who will buy all the Florida McMansions (10,000 - 15,000) square feet with the declining birth rate, aging populace, rising maintenance/utility costs, smaller families, etc.. I didn't have a good answer.

5, and moving there from Tidewater to the Leonardtown, MD area in the 90's was major culture shock. The residents could nearly all trace their ancestry to the original 3 ships arriving in the country; names like Hewitt, Mattingly, Raley and others. And the old-timers till had the Elizabethan accent in their speech A source of bragging was how long a person had gone without "leaving the county". Some adults had NEVER left and were called "Countians".... Women didn't drive to Waldorf to shop unless an uncle, brother or husband was with them; it was considered unseemly and "loose".
"Deed, by God"... No chain stores, groceries or eateries at the time. Lots of vibrant history though and some there remembered the old Mercury 7 astronauts raising hell in the area decades ago. And "The Roost" restaurant was a favorite hangout (and still there).. The Navy moved the NAVAIR command to Patuxent River and I'm sure by now that area has "blown out" and much of the charm is gone. |

What I am starting to see in my area (central CA) is older guys with huge shops are dying off or going to condos and no new home buyers see the shops as an asset. They look at the bays and equipment and have no use for it and see it as a problem to get rid of. Most of the newer generations don't work on things or have physical hobbies. They are into video/electronic/streaming stuff. |
