I think it's insanity that the criminal justice system will spend significant effort prosecuting her, while allowing people to steal thousands of dollars in merchandise in the same state with...zero consequences.

With 30+ years as an LEO you learn how to talk to and get people to justify their actions. Obviously others saw her actions and deemed it inappropriate in a public place to the point that they placed a call to the police department. The responding officers have an obligation to contact the identified person and to inquire about their conduct. If the suspect voluntarily reveals incriminating evidence is that the officers fault?
You are correct that "don't talk to the cops" is a wide decision but everyone seems to have a desire to explain their actions.
The woman didn't use her brain to satisfy herself by doing it a open public place. Then the stupid broad admits to having a toy. She is a sandwich short of picnic.

If free to go, wish officer a good day, then walk, don't run away. Walk with purpose and GTFO.....and don't walk to your car so you can be identified by your tag. Just walk. Get the car later if necessary.


If detained, invoke 5th Amendment right to not answer questions, assert you don't consent to searches or seizures, and ask for a lawyer, then STFU. You aren't required to participate in an investigation against YOU. Why would you voluntarily help someone intent on trying to hurt you? After that, the only thing you need to do every so often is keep asking if you are still being detained, or if you are free to go.

This woman would have gone home had she followed these simple tips, most probably.

To me, if the cops had some common sense, they should have told her not to do that again and let her go. Check your surroundings next time.

Also, by the size of these cops, I think they need to get out of their car and spend time walking the streets.
