Yup, there's a reason there's a Miata road racing league, and you see lots of them on tracks. Best bang for the buck for a road racing car most people can afford. I'm not aware of any Tesla road racing league.

I don't drive crappy cars. I don't drive out of warranty cars.
Diesel Pickup at least $80k, DECENT daily driver about $40k, 9 second late model race car (old race cars are way too much work) $50k.
Total cost $170k and you can't finance the race car at a low interest rate.
I got < 4% rate on my Plaid. No reason to pull money from my Real Estate portfolio to buy a race car.

It's not a stupid argument. Before we went electric, this is what it cost us every month for gas. Wife's car is paid for and doesn't have a payment and my Model Y was a little above $700 per month. Same monthly expense and I was driving a brand new Model Y Long Range.

We get it already. You're okay driving a car that looks like crap. You like to go fast in a short straight line occasionally at a test & tune night (not a real race, but whatever). You like tech. You don't like corners. You don't mind stopping every three hours on a road trip to charge and eat fast food. You don't mind planning a trip around where you can charge vs. where you want to stop. Etc. Etc. Etc.

You're in a very small minority in all of those things.

you like road racing. I don't. Everyone should get what fits their wants and needs. To truly get the most out of a car that corners well, you need to get training and spend time to acquire those skills. A skilled driver in a stock Miata can probably beat an amateur in a C7 Vette on a road course. I have no time to acquire those skills.

You can buy a reliable, well built 8 second rail car for <$20k. You can buy 9 second T/D cars that will run for years without needing anything other than gas for under $15k.

It's a stupid argument because you're comparing a TRUCK and a VAN driving almost twice as many miles to your current small SUV and your wife's shoebox sized car.

How in the hell can you not understand how those are 2 different things? Holy shit.

Yeah, and then you have the maintenance on the rail car.. If I would remotely consider a gas race car, it would have to be a late model one. Rail cars usually have old school powertrain.. I used to have a race car with old school powertrain.. NOT RELIABLE. Stuff needed to be fixed and adjusted all the time.

High 9s... how cute.

Notice that both cars have license plates on them. I know the owner of the black one. He doesn't own a trailer.

You don't get that I went to get a brand new Tesla and a low mileage BMW i3 and it cost me the same every month as my 2 old cars. You don't seem to get that.
What's better? 2 cars with warranty or 2 old cars for the same $ per month?

Streel Legal and Street car are 2 different things.. You certainly will drive your family cross country with the cage and parachute on the car

If you have a car built like that you'll spend big $$$ as well.

I don't know how it's possible to have spent so much time at a track and still be so completely ignorant.

An 8-9 second rail car needs essentially zero maintenance beyond an oil change every few weekends. Hell, you can run them for an entire season on 1 set of tires. We regularly run an 8.50 index N/A Big Block Chev powered rail car that hasn't needed anything other than gas for the last 5 seasons.

If stuff needed to be fixed and adjusted "all the time", it's because it was built like shit in the first place.

hahaha.. because nothing every goes wrong with chevy engines..
I ended up spinning my bearings every other year and had some kind of engine repair, tuning etc. etc. etc. several times per year.
Again, I raced chevy engines for many years and it was not problem free. Never had a transmission blow up and only broke 1 rear end but engines caused my non stop problems and I had pro built engines.

I would rather walk than drive an i3. I sure as shit wouldn't put anybody that I care about in 1 of them ... and I wouldn't pay more for your Tesla than I would for a Honda CRV.

Again. You spent "six figures" on a car with asinine depreciation and your argument is that you are saving money by doing so. It's a stupid f**king argument.

I spent 6 figures as I wanted a 9 second SUV that I can daily drive and have a warranty. I'm DONE owning multiple cars as I spent way too much time on their maintenance. 2 cars, 2 insurances + long warranty on all the expensive parts.
PEACE OF MIND is worth a lot to me. I don't want to have to deal with loading the car on the trailer, using up driveway or garage space for the trailer, maintaining a tow vehicle. I usually go to the track right after work for Thursday Night Test and Tune. Works out perfectly to arrive early at the track as I need to leave early as track is 1.5 hours from my home. If I had a trailered race car, I can't drive my truck with trailered race car to the office as there's nowhere to park it, so I would have to go home, load the race car and then arrive at the track super late and get to run very little. I don't have the time for all the hassle that comes with a dedicated race car. I wanted a car that can do everything I want or need all in one and there is no car like the Model X Plaid that can do everything I want and need all in one vehicle.

How I picture an EV owner when he says he's going drag racing.

Great. You should certainly buy what you want. I would never argue that.

The problem is the constant stream of bullshit that you keep posting about how amazing it is and trying to defend the flaws like someone has insulted your family name. Why are you completely the hell incapable of admitting on even the most basic level that there are things about it that are far from ideal?
