Hey Aerovette: Got Power?

Houston had a bad storm just run on through. Lots of glass broken in downtown, a few people dead, trees down, etc. Looks like the power's out at the 290/1960 intersection.

Had a good rain here, cooled things off, other than that, all good here on the South side, yo'.

I took a fair hit. No power any time soon. Huge tower came down. The fence down the right side of my yard, is now crashed against the fence on the left side. The cable box took a hard hit. Fence posts snapped at ground level. I lost shingles, fence, good sized branch, dozens of small branches. Gate and fence on the left went down too. Here's the insanity, not one piece of patio furniture moved. So I was at Home Depot getting posts, concrete, stringers, pickets, etc. I'm taking tomorrow off and I'll be rebuilding the fence that I JUST PUT UP A FEW MONTHS AGO. Thankfully no one hurt that I know. I drove
by an 18 wheeler that layed down from the wind, and had to navigate around downed trees. Very few traffic lights are working.

Damn, that sucks. I'm assuming you didn't get any water leakage inside? The storm was apparently pretty severe, but it was fast moving. Are the pickets and runners in good shape as they're new? If so, you've got panels already constructed that just need to be put up on new posts.

Greatly appreciate it, but I hope to get the posts up today and finish tomorrow. Fence is secondary. I'm concerned about the roof.

One section of my fence went over the wall behind my house and is scattered in the street. I picked up a lot of it.

No power. Phone signals are terrible. I'm hotspotting to post this and it has taken a solid 10 minutes to finally load this page.

As an FYI, sometimes help isn't help. I would have been done sooner and had a better result if I worked alone. My neighbors are nice, but it was a cluster.

So while I am able to communicate:

I had to drive WAY out of my area to get gas. Many traffic lights are not working, gas stations are open, but either have lines out to the street, or have no gas.

Interestingly, south of me, by just a few miles, they have power. North of me, but just a few miles, they have power.

My area does not.

Roof has been patched with new shingles, two new roof caps put on at the very very front of the house...guy said he's do it for $250.00. I gave him $350.00. He pulled my ass out of the fire for sure.

One section of fence is up and one gate. The gate kicked my ass.
Four broken posts dug up. Two new ones have been placed. Two more tomorrow morning. I suck at fence building apparently. I do good work, just slow as molasses. Can't find tool in the dark garage with a flashlight. Mud EVERYWHERE from mushy ground and bad rains.

Boss loaned me a generator BUT it is running really bad. It's on propane and popping and backfiring a lot. Then it's smooth for 30-4- minutes, then has fits again. I know ZIP about generators so I hope it doesn't blow up or anything.

No idea when I'll have power, and pages I need to access for that info won't load.

Good to know there are still great people in this world and especially in the Barn where we pick on each other on an hourly basis.
