Default Memorial Service

Baby Doll and I went to one today, for one of our "winter friends", a term we use for ski pals and acquaintances. He was the older brother of a guy in my race league. 68 years old and dropped dead of a heart attack.

Live every day to it's fullest.

A friend of the family passed away last year at 66, same thing, dropped dead. He was a powerful dynamic guy, real earner, golfer, family man. No bad habits. Not fat. Just poof-gone. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

I remember when that happened.....I was on a track team in HS. Then, less than 20 years later, Gene Siskel of Siskel and Ebert dropped dead of a heart attack.

I know, why don't we do a thread about all the people we know that have passed away the last 60 years.

Ebert lost most of his jaw

In the early 2000s, Ebert was diagnosed with cancer of the thyroid and salivary glands. He required treatment that included removing a section of his lower jaw in 2006, leaving him severely disfigured and unable to speak or eat normally.

Yep. But that was later. The joke in the 80's-'90's was always about Eberts weight. I like him for his work with Russ Meyer on Beyond the Valley of the Dolls in 1969-70.

Wow - so sorry.

Has to be the most depressing day on the Vette Barn I've ever seen; full of sad posts about dead wives/girlfriends/aging relatives in a single 24 hour period.

Has me heading for the fridge and some cold beer while I contemplate my mortality.

Life is never fair
It is always consistent
It is often cruel
There are no guarantees
We all have shit days

Enjoy the good days, give thanks
Always help others when you can
Always stay positive
Take nothing for granted
Stay strong, you will endure

Sorry to those with recent losses, hold your great memories close, and make new ones with family and loved ones.
