The only "no worries" steel roof is a standing seam. A good grade of fiberglass shingles will outlive Lars. And be considerable less expensive.

That's exactly what I just had put onto my garage. Good to go!

I did that on my rear porch roof. Cost more than the original roof on the whole house.

Yes the shingles are less than the standing seam. Not so much less if comparing to the exposed fastener steel roofing.

The metal roofing does not exempt you from that 15 year insurance rule.
This I know for a fact because I recently experienced it.

And...it is not a little difference.

AH! THAT is a different story then. Gotta keep peace in the house. When I shingled my house (was cedar shingles - what a crap roofing system that was) I bought singles that are double thick, came with a transferable 30 year warranty. I figured that was as good as I could do without going to steel. Steel wouldn't have suited the look of the house at all. I did it before the pandemic - I recently priced out the same roof today - literally twice as expensive.

In the US, I believe asphalt shingles are the most common roofing materials used. No where else in the world even comes close to the use of these "disposable products".

Similarly to my distaste for vinyl siding, I'm also not a fan of asphalt shingles. But if cost is your main concern they are the way to go.

That house has a nice high pitch, that opens a door for so many other choices, cedar, standing seam, solar shingles, plastics, heck even slate.

All of them would have life expectancies 2x or 3x the cheap asphalt. Yes, it gets pricey but imo worth it in the long run. A good roof protects everything under it!

On a barn where you can see the underside of the roof, sure why not. On a house with a cathedral ceiling where all that is hidden? No way.

I don't care what kind of 'miracle' material the o-rings are made of, they will eventually break down and start to leak. Especially in hot climates.

Shit, I'll be 62 in a couple of months. Asphalt shingles will be good enough for my program.

The decision is an aesthetic one more than a budget one. Although standing seam metal would be a budget buster.
