Who here served in the Military?

If so, what service, what was your primary MOS and when did you serve?

I was USMC, 0331 and served 1976-1980.

I was already out of school and in practice for about 5 years before I received my commission. There was a signing bonus and there was also some loan repayment. It didn't cover all of my loans, and it didn't cover a cent of the interest accumulated (which was substantial on 190,000 of principal).

What kind of responsibilities does a veterinarian have in the Army? Is it strictly official military or do you treat military members pets also?

3 main roles:

Animal Care, primarily DOD working dogs, but also pets belonging to those with base access privileges.

Food Inspection, due to our background in microbiology and food animal medicine. Ensuring the safety of the food supply for the entire military, including audits of facilities CONUS and OCONUS who are listed as vendors for the DOD.

Civil Affairs, helping agricultural economies put the pieces back together after conflict or disaster.

Served in the Austrian Army in 1991 - 1992. It is mandatory to either do community service or Military service. I chose military service.
